The suburb of Parkinson is about 21km south of the Brisbane CBD and borders the neighbouring suburbs of Calamvale, Drewvale and Algester. The suburb was established in the early 1990s and has experienced strong population growth since about 2000. Parkinson was once semi-rural and rural land, but that has now made way for a number of neighbourhoods and many prestigious streets. Residents pride themselves on Parkinson's low crime rate and there is an active Neighbourhood Watch group operating in the area.

The suburb offers a number of modern homes and executive residences, and is bordered by an extensive green belt. There are a number of facilities available in the area including schools, supermarkets and parks. Griffith University's Nathan Campus is located 11km to the north and the Gold Coast campus is readily accessible from the Logan Motorway.
